Heath aster is a widespread plant of prairies and woodlands, especially on sunny, dry, sandy, rocky, or gravelly soil. It can be planted in rich soil if the site is well-drained. It has a relatively compact form and small, stiff, gray-green leaves. It produces numerous small, white flower heads.
